How to Find the Good Indie Games

April 27, 2026 · Katarzyna Nowak

The hardest part of mobile gaming isn't playing — it's finding anything worth playing. The stores are flooded with clones and copycats, and the charts rarely surface the interesting stuff. Over the years I've built a few habits that help.

I ignore the top charts almost entirely and dig into the 'similar games' rails instead, then follow those threads. One quirky puzzle game usually leads to three more from the same corner of the store. It's a rabbit hole, but a productive one.

Reading recent reviews helps, but read them for detail, not stars. A one-star rant about a specific bug tells me more than a hundred vague five-star cheers. And screenshots that show actual gameplay, not just splashy art, are a good sign a developer is proud of the real thing.

And of course, sites like this one exist to save you the dig. That's the whole point — we wade through the sludge so your download list stays short and worth it.
